The Runway to Digital: How Athletic Discipline Shaped Jump Exposure

I often get asked what my business name stands for? Well long before I was tweaking HTML or optimising web pages, I was sprinting down a track runway with one goal in mind, launch into a hop, step and jump. At 13 years old, I leapt 13 metres 56, a world age-best in the triple jump at the time (back when you had to wait months for a magazine to know such things!). That early breakthrough earned me Great Britain junior call-ups across Europe and taught me two fundamental truths that still guide every project I tackle today:

When One Runway Led to Another

Life has a way of redirecting our energy. A stubborn injury shifted my path from athlete to coach, where I found myself guiding other talented jumpers who, like me, wanted to squeeze every last inch out of their phases. The precision required, the attention to form, the relentless pursuit of marginal gains, these lessons were just beginning to take shape.

Around the same period in the early 1990s, I joined the University of Wolverhampton’s School of Computing and IT (Formerly known as SCIT). There, professors and researchers handed me the keys to this revolutionary new thing at the time called “the internet.” What I brought to those computer labs was something they didn’t teach in algorithms. It was my artistic eye.

The attraction was immediate. I fell hard for desktop publishing, Aldus pagemaker, HTML and slicing GIF buttons; anything that let code and creativity share the same sandbox. By day, I was helping my department to help local businesses “get online” (long before that was a given) and by evening, I was still at the track, rhythm-clapping athletes down the runway. Two worlds, one obsession with progression.

The Learning Never Stops

That curiosity eventually pulled me back to the classroom for a part-degree in Web Computing, graduating with a 1st and deeper into online marketing and emerging tech research. But this wasn’t just academic exercise. I was discovering that the same principles that helped athletes achieve personal bests could transform how businesses approached their digital presence.

Soon I was training companies not just to have a website, but to use it as a growth engine. The parallels were everywhere: preparation, technique, execution, measurement, improvement.

Why Jump Exposure?

Those two words capture everything about my journey:

The name isn’t just clever wordplay. It’s a philosophy born from decades of watching athletes transform potential into performance, and businesses transform presence into profit.

Where Athletics Meets Digital Excellence

Whenever I go down to the local track and see the athletes hit the board, I’m reminded of what truly matters: speed in, form through, distance out. That sequence maps perfectly onto every digital project.  Rapid discovery, disciplined build, measurable results.

This is what sets Jump Exposure apart. When you work with me, you’re not just getting another web agency. You’re accessing decades of athletic discipline, coaching clarity, and university-honed tech fluency all channelled into one unwavering promise:

I’ll help your business leap further and land exactly where your audience is already looking.

Because whether it’s a triple-jump runway or a brand-new website, the philosophy remains identical: prepare, commit, fly, measure then go again, farther.

The runway has changed, but the pursuit of excellence continues.
